A message from Damon Murchison, President and CEO, IG Wealth Management

Each June, we honour National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day. However, these observances cannot be recognized without acknowledging the atrocity of the remains of 215 children discovered in unmarked graves at a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C. This news has deeply saddened all of us at IG Wealth Management, and it is a sombre reminder of our country’s past and the injustice that continues today.

Now is the time to listen, learn and reflect. With input and guidance from our Indigenous partners, community leaders and Indigenous Partners in Action (PIA) group, we are using this time to honour the lived experience of Indigenous peoples to support the journey towards truth and reconciliation.

On June 23, Dr. Niigaanwewidam James Sinclair, one of the foremost Indigenous leaders and educators, will be speaking to IG staff about creating allyship and promoting reconciliation. We are committed to continuing our learning about the history of our First Peoples and the challenges they continue to face. It is only through education that we will understand the truth, so that healing can truly begin.
