Everyone participating in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is walking with a purpose. Whether it’s for a family member, a friend or a colleague, every step counts towards raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s. This year, at IG Wealth Management, we’re all walking for someone who’s extremely important to us.
In September 2020, Jeff Carney, former President and CEO of IG Wealth Management, announced he had been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. As a long-time and passionate advocate for people living with Alzheimer’s, Jeff continues to raise awareness and support for those impacted by dementia. This year IG staff from across Canada are participating in the #IGWalkForAlz to support Jeff, his family and the millions like them.
Walking the walk doesn’t only support the people directly affected by Alzheimer’s, but the families and caregivers who stand by their side. The number of people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease is set to double in just 10 years – which means the number of people in the role of caregiver will also double. Money raised during the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s stays in your community and provides life changing programs like respite care, support groups and counselling. No matter where you live in Canada, the Alzheimer’s Society is there for you, so no one has to face this disease alone.
Funds will help hire more frontline professionals, who can continue to provide support to the growing number of people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia. With these hired professionals we can offer more one-on-one counseling to both those living with Alzheimer’s and family members
affected by it. Money raised will also go to programs like First Link® – a service that connects people newly diagnosed with dementia with the right support and information they need. Lastly, the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s provides financial support to research and development for treatments and a cure for dementia.
People living with dementia and their caregivers count on the Alzheimer Society for support, but the Alzheimer Society counts on people like you. For these great reasons and many more, we appreciate you joining us every step of the way in May and walking the walk.
We look forward to seeing you on May 30th for our event celebration.
