Many of us have a retirement age in mind, whether that’s 55, 65 or well into our 70s. Unfortunately, a large number of Canadians will be forced to leave the working world earlier than planned, either because of a later-in-life layoff or a health crisis.
Exiting the workforce before we’re ready can trigger significant mental and financial distress, in part because we never think we’ll be faced with a forced retirement. The more we can plan for the unexpected, though, the better off we’ll be.
