The last weekend of May will see people across Canada walking to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s research. (While it’s almost here, it’s not too late to join! Sign up today.) Everyone participating in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s will be walking for a purpose. Whether it’s for a family member, a friend or a colleague, every step they take will count towards Alzheimer’s research. This year, at IG Wealth Management, we’re also all walking for someone who’s extremely important to us.
In September 2020 the former President and CEO of IG Wealth Management, Jeff Carney, announced he had been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Jeff has been a long-time and passionate advocate for people living with Alzheimer’s and he continues to raise awareness and support. This year IG staff from across Canada will be participating in the #IGWalkForAlz to support Jeff, his family and everyone who is impacted by dementia.
As part of his commitment to raising funds for the Alzheimer Society, Jeff filmed a video where he shares his diagnosis and his hope for the future. Watch the video.
Walking the walk doesn’t just help the people directly affected by Alzheimer’s. It also supports the families and caregivers who stand by their side. The number of people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease is expected to double in just 10 years – which also means the number of people in the role of caregiver will also double.
Money raised through the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s stays in your community and provides life changing programs like respite care, support groups and counselling. No matter where you live in Canada, the Alzheimer’s Society is there in your community, so no one has to face this disease alone.
We encourage you to sign-up and join your local Walk on the last weekend in May. If you haven’t signed up to walk yet, there’s still time to register today . If you are unable to join us at the walk, but want to contribute to this worthy cause, you can make a donation (to your local community today. Whether you’re walking or donating, your support is greatly appreciated by the Alzheimer Society.
We look forward to seeing you, and everyone, at your local community walk the last weekend in May.
